There is no longer any controversy about working women in our society. That is because most Americans disagree that traditional sex roles—whereby men go to work and women stay home—are best. More than two-thirds of Millennials, Gen Xers, and Boomers disagree that traditional sex roles are best. This compares with a smaller 48 percent of older Americans. The oldest generation is the only one in which the majority thinks there is something wrong with premarital sex. Americans are still ambivalent about homosexuality.
The 55 percent majority of Millenials say they are only slightly or not at all religious. Among older Americans, 76 percent say they are moderately or very religious. Most Americans heartily disagree with the decades-old Supreme Court decision banning the Bible from the public schools. Overall, only 42 percent approve. But among Millennials, the 53 percent majority agrees with the decision. ■ Millennials may become more religious as they get older, or they could usher in a more secular society.
Two living generations precede the Baby Boom: the Swing and World War II generations. Today, the youngest members of the older generations are turning 65. The oldest members are more than 100 years old. 0 million per year. In the late 1920s, the number of births began to fall, coinciding with the Great Depression. Today, the World War II generation, whose members were born in the years prior to 1933, is aged 78 or older and numbers more than 14 million.
